SOP - Primer Sanding

• Prepare primed areas for application of basecoat/clearcoat.
• Refine scratches and featheredge primer into surrounding area.

Step 1 - Apply Guide Coat

Follow manufacturer’s instructions for primer application and cure times.

Apply Guide Coat to highlight the repair area.

Step 2 - Sand

Using the MR-38CV-1 orbital sander, sand using P320 grit to level the primed repair. Alternate sanding direction to avoid creating deep, straight scratches. If  bare metal or filler shows through  the sanded area, it must be re-primed.

Use an DE-1230-PC portable dust extractor or other dust collection system when sanding.

Step 3 - Reapply

Re-apply Guide Coat to highlight any deep sanding scratches.

Step 4 - Refine

Using the Mirka® PROS sander, featheredge and refine the 320 grit scratches from step 2 with P500 grit discs.

Metallics and other topcoats that are susceptible to showing primer scratches should be followed by P800 grit.
